What is your favorite part of owning an independent pharmacy?
Owensboro Family Pharmacy has been in business since March 2016. Our first few years have been wonderful! The best part of owning an independent is the freedom to do everything the way it needs to be done in order to take care of our customers. There are so many policies large chains employ that are about profitability instead of what is good for the patient. We are able to make better decisions to help promote health in our customers.
What unique health needs do you have in your community?
We are in the Ohio Valley, which means we have the worst allergies in the nation. Quite a few of our customers have been told to move to Phoenix for the better air quality. Discussing the best way to manage allergies as well as respiratory conditions is of the utmost importance for our patients. This area also grows tobacco, and as such, there are many smokers in Kentucky. This doesn’t help the respiratory issues of our population.
We also have an aging community, and to cater to their needs, we have purchased custom-made medication trays to deliver weekly medications to assisted living facilities and patient homes. This has helped reduce medication errors and increase compliance and adherence.
What sets you apart from the competition?
Owensboro Family Pharmacy offers wellness consults. Owner and pharmacist, Jesica, is working towards a Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine, resulting in our store being the only pharmacy that is educated on natural supplements and naturopathic medicine in the area. This will enable our team to help all the stores’ patients, including those for whom allopathic medicines do not have a treatment (like endometriosis, hot flashes, etc.).
What does Locally Loved mean to you?
Locally Loved holds a special place in our hearts. Being able to be a part of the community we are blessed to serve is a great opportunity. We are able to take care of the needs of our patients and community and donate to churches, sports teams, and charities in the area. We just received an invitation to a customer’s 50th anniversary party. We truly love being a part of our patients’ lives and value the trust they place in us to partner in their health care.
